**Itinerary**
**9:00 AM**
Your guide will welcome you at the meeting point, holding a small flag that says “Beijing Walking Tours.” The tour begins at the East Gate of the Temple of Heaven.
The Temple of Heaven is an imperial complex of religious buildings located in the southeastern part of central Beijing. Emperors from the Ming and Qing dynasties visited this complex for annual prayer ceremonies to Heaven, seeking a good harvest. It has often been regarded as a Taoist temple, although Chinese Heaven worship predates Taoism, especially during the reign of the monarchs.
During the visit, you will witness many local activities and get a glimpse into the lives of the local people. This is a fantastic place to experience everyday life. You will also have the opportunity to explore the beautiful temples and learn about various religions in China.
After a 1.5-hour walk at the Temple of Heaven, you will take a public bus to Tiananmen Square. Don’t worry; the bus ride is only 15 minutes long and not usually crowded.
Our guide can arrange a short break before visiting the Palace Museum, or you can head to Old Qianmen Street to try some local food. Our tour guide is flexible and will accommodate the preferences of all group members.
Tiananmen Square has been the heart of China for over 600 years. After a half-hour walk around the square, you will proceed through the middle gate and see the vast red gate, which serves as the entrance to the Forbidden City. From there, you’ll enjoy a leisurely walk through the imperial city while listening to unique stories from your guide. There will be plenty of opportunities for beautiful photographs. Although the Forbidden City is the busiest tourist site in Beijing and often crowded, our local experts will guide you to quieter spots for great photo opportunities.
After a two-hour tour around the Forbidden City, the tour will conclude at the north gate.
You can choose to explore other attractions with your guide or continue visiting the Forbidden City on your own in the afternoon.
**Closing Times for the Forbidden City:**
– April to October: 5:00 PM
– November to March: 4:30 PM

Reviewed September 15, 2018, via mobile Excellent Tour with a Very Knowledgeable Guide
My mom and I did the Beijing Heritage Walking Tour. Our guide’s name was Joe. Joe spoke English very well and was very knowledgeable about everything we saw. He was an excellent guide! The tour went well; we felt like we spent enough time at each place, but the tour wasn’t too long. We saw the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and a market.
Reviewed November 3, 2018, Fantastic Beijing walking tours with Joe – highly recommend it!
I was in Beijing for only a weekend in October, so a friend referred me to Beijing Walking Tours to do get a guided tour. I proceeded to book the Private Hutong and Private Heritage tours.
I had an absolutely amazing experience walking through the streets of Beijing with Joe, who gave me a great perspective on traditional Beijing life. All the destinations are truly something special and Joe is very knowledgeable about all of them. He was able to take me to some of the less touristy places and show me the hidden nooks in well-known attractions. He was flexible with the scheduling and route so we could catch the sun setting over the Forbidden City, which was a sight to see.
The booking process was quick and convenient and Joe fetched and took me back to my hotel every time. Money is very well spent. Thank you very much to Joe and Leo for a great time!….More
FAQS:
Does the tour buy tickets online for us before the tour happens?
The Forbidden City is the most popular attraction in Beijing, drawing many tourists every day. Typically, visitors have to queue for at least half an hour to purchase tickets. To save you time, your tour guide will buy the tickets online in advance, so you won’t have to stand in a long, tedious line. We will secure the tickets for you one day before the tour to avoid any delays. Please send us your passport number along with your full name when you book the tour.
What happens if I am late and miss the Group?
Please arrive at the tour starting location at least 10 to 15 minutes before the scheduled start time, as we begin promptly. It would be unfair to others to wait for latecomers. If you arrive late, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to find your tour group.
How much walking is there on this tour?
There are between 6 and 7 kilometers of walking at a moderate pace. If mobility is an issue, please arrange for a private tour. Please dress appropriately for long-distance walking and the current weather conditions.
Does the tour happen during the rain or snow?
We only cancel the tour during extreme weather conditions. Otherwise, the tour goes on. Please check the weather report and be prepared.
Does this tour go to any shops?
We don’t go to tourist shops, factories, etc., and waste our precious time.
How do I pay?
We don’t ask for a deposit; please pay your guide with cash when you meet. We also accept PayPal payments. Our PayPal account is liuguankui@163.com
What is the tipping or gratuities policy?
Tipping is always appreciated by our guides, but it is never required. Tips should be given if you feel your guide did an outstanding job and if you want to show your appreciation for their efforts. Generally, people tip between 50 and 100 RMB per person, per day.
